This one will go fast so don’t wait!
On the 13th of November, Panama formally inaugurated the Scarlett Martinez International Airport in Rio Hato with the arrival of the Presidential Plane. Rio Hato is a coastal community that is just a 2 hour drive from Pedasí. The hope is that the new airport will benefit the approximately 230,000 people who live in the area.
The construction work that was done mainly consisted of rebuilding a runway from an already existing American base, and building a tunnel for the Pan American highway to pass under the runway. In 1930, the US Army rented the airfield from Panama for $1 a year. What a deal!
Although it is not yet known which airlines will be servicing flights to the airport, the word on the street is that two airlines from Canada and multiple others from Ecuador, Venezuela, and even Europe have their sights set on offering flights to and from Rio Hato.
The airport is named after a copilot who died a number of years ago in an accident on Aeroperlas Airline in the Kuna Yala province of Panama. The full article about the inauguration in Spanish can be found here:
Our landscaping is a continuous work in progress, there’s always something more to plant! Until now, we have planted over 2,000 trees in the project, including palms, fruit trees, and many types of native trees and flowers. It’s amazing to see the before and after, and every year the plants grow at alarming rates!
This house is a perfect size for a couple or even for a guest house. It is fully furnished, has a “studio” design with an open floor plan, and measures 1,022 square feet. The house sits on a large 18,568 square foot lot, and there is plenty of space to build another home for additional living space or a rental house. The bedroom has french doors overlooking a flagstone porch that is connected to an outside shower. There is a large front terrace overlooking the garden and locally crafted custom wood windows and doors. The house is colonial style, with tropical wood ceilings, beams, columns, and a classic Spanish tile roof. Includes parking for two cars, a front gate, and tons of landscaping including more than 10 types of tropical fruit trees.
Our second spec house is going up fast, and set to be finished by the end of July. This house is 1,320 square feet, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a large ½ bath, laundry room, and storage. The kitchen and living room open up to the private outdoor living space that overlooks the back yard; a great spot for a future pool! It will have a classic tile roof, custom wood windows and doors, French style drainage, and plenty of tropical landscaping on a 10,807 square foot lot. Next week we will be planting hibiscus, bamboo, many types of palms, and other trees; all will be connected to their own irrigation system. The front entrance of the house is almost finished with a flagstone porch and path leading to the main gate and parking.
Our latest house is being built on lot #19. This one is a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, with a large patio facing the back yard. The house will have a similar style to the last that was recently built and sold: high ceilings, classic red tile roof, wood columns, handcrafted wood windows and doors, lots of light and breeze. It will be done in July. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We are happy to announce that we’ll soon have new neighbors! Larry and Wendy from Canada bought this beautiful home that we just finished building.
They are waiting for their container with all their belongings to arrive from Canada and they hope to move in sometime during May. They are looking forward to enjoying their morning coffee from their back patio…
They plan to add on a barbecue area outside their laundry/storage room that’s connected to the kitchen…
I guess it’s time to take down the “House for Sale” sign!
In October we started building a new house to sell, and things are about wrapping up! We are set to finish in mid-January and are confident that this one will get snapped right up by the right clients. The house is 1,420 square feet, and sits on a beautiful 11,603 square foot lot. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, a separate laundry room and storage, and an open and kitchen/living area with tons of natural light that opens to three french doors overlooking the patio and front yard. The house is built in the classic colonial style that characterizes this area; wood ceilings, wood columns, and handmade Spanish tile roof. All of the doors and windows are custom made and hand crafted by a local carpenter. The yard comes fully landscaped complete with several types of palms, hibiscus, native trees, and natural stone paths around the house. At just $149,000 there is no other house like this in Pedasí. We are just finishing up the electricity work in our newest project, a 5 hectare property on the way to Arenal Beach. After the electricity is completed, each lot will be connected to the public electric provider; each lot is already connected to the public water provider. What more do you need!
Now it’s even easier to relocate to Panama! The government recently created a new subcategory allowing for the issuance of permanent residency permits to nationals from 24 countries that maintain a friendly relationship with Panama. As a consequence, the Panama Ministry of Labor created a new work permit for those who apply for and who are approved through this new subcategory. In contrast with common Work Permits which require annual extensions, these new work permits are being granted as “indefinite” with no expiration date.
The Ministry of Labor is charging $500 for these permits. Any reputable law firm in Panama can help you obtain this new work permit. The costs and government fees (including the Work Permit fee and others) is $600, and lawyer fees are around $400. Individuals from the following countries are eligible for the work permit: Germany, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Spain, United States, Slovakia, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Singapore, Uruguay, Chile and Sweden.
